For over 200 years, Technische Universität Wien has been a center of research, teaching, and learning in the service of progress. Located near the city center of Vienna, TU Wien provides an ideal setting for the Annual ERES Conference. The university is conveniently situated near major public transportation hubs and some of the city’s most impressive landmarks. It offers a well-developed technological infrastructure, complemented by excellent touristic amenities in the surrounding area. The conference venue is located close to Karlsplatz — a major hub for public transport, including underground lines, trams, and buses — enabling participants to reach the location quickly from anywhere in Vienna.

Urban Planning in Transition: Seestadt Urban Laboratory
(Excursion I)
+ This excursion explores Seestadt Aspern as an example of innovative urban development. Participants will examine urban structures, mixed use, mobility concepts, and public spaces. The aim is to understand and critically reflect on current strategies for sustainable urban planning in a real-world context.

Red Vienna and City Panorama: Karl Marx Hof & Kahlenberg
(Excursion II)
+ The excursion combines a visit to Karl-Marx-Hof, one of the most famous examples of social housing in “Red Vienna,” with a view of the city from Kahlenberg. Viennese architectural traditions, building height restrictions, and urban planning regulations that largely prevent high-rise buildings in the historic city center will be explained.

Awards & Recognitions

Winners are selected from submissions to the refereed session by the Refereed Papers Committee. Each member of the committee assigns a score based on originality and innovation, contribution to knowledge, scientific quality, completeness, and quality of writing. Overall, the committee expects the selected papers to be ready for publication in well-established and reputable journals in the field.

Winners are selected by the Refereed Papers Committee with inputs from the session chairs from among the discussants of papers presented in the refereed sessions. Each member of the committee assigns scores considering whether comments are (a) relevant and important (b) well-structured (c) objective with helpful guidance for improvement.

To the ERES conference, the full paper (in pdf. format, not exceeding 6,000-8,000 words) or abstracts (not exceeding 450 words) can be submitted via the ERES system. The full papers that are not desk rejected by the Refereed Papers Committee are presented in the refereed sessions (with discussant). Abstracts may be submitted for non-referred sessions (without discussant).

In refereed sessions, typically presenters have about 20 minutes and discussants 10 minutes at their disposal. In non-refereed sessions, each presenter has 15 minutes. 5 minutes are allocated for Q&A for each presentation.
Discussants are responsible for commenting on papers to provide professional and constructive criticism and raise issues for broader consideration that connect to the papers.

All papers and abstracts submitted to the ERES system and accepted for presentation after the conference will be published in the ERES Digital Library, unless their authors report otherwise by the first day of the conference.

This event is organized as an ÖkoEvent, focusing on sustainability and environmental protection. The conference is designed according to the ÖkoEvent criteria of the City of Vienna. This conserves resources and reduces waste and emissions.
Please choose an environmentally friendly way to get here, or share a car. Whenever possible, please use public transport or walk. Using public transport is a convenient way to get to the event venue that also reduces CO₂ emissions. The event venue, Campus Gusshaus, is located in the centre of Vienna and offers excellent, barrier-free access to the public transport network, as well as accessible toilet facilities.

Vienna International Airport, located about 20 km (12 miles) east of the city center. It serves numerous international and domestic flights.
By Train
International Rail Services: If you're coming from neighboring countries, you can reach Vienna by train. The main train station is Wien Hauptbahnhof.
The congress venue is only 10 minutes away from the main train station.

The Technische Universität Wien - where the Annual ERES 2026 Conference will take place - is conveniently located in the center of Vienna. Karlsplatz is a main transportation hub.
Getting here by public transport
You can get to the event venue from both Vienna Main Station and Vienna Westbahnhof Station in around 20 minutes.
U-Bahn (metro) lines U1, U4 and U2, stop ‚Karlsplatz‘: 10-minute walk.
Coming with line U1, you can also exit at the stop ‚Taubstummengasse’: 5-minute walk.

If you need to come by car, we recommend using the Park & Ride facilities on the outskirts of the city. Please note that there are short-stay parking zones throughout Vienna until 10 p.m.
